Since 2007, millions of people around the world have been pranking each other with false links that redirect to a 1980s music video. The phenomenon has become known as the "Rick Roll," and has become an integral part of internet pop culture. The question is, where did it come from, and why did it become so popular?

When would you guys say Skype died out? I still remember using Skype allllll the time when I was around 11-13, which were around 2015-2017. I think it really died with Discord releasing in 2016-2017
I dont know if it was intentional or not but the captions being slightly misaligned at the beginning and then synching to his speech is comedic gold
0:35 Ouch... miss club penguin 😢
Mean while kinitopet laughing in the corner:
I honestly remember seeing this on the shelf numerous times when I was young. During the Windows 95 days. As soon as i saw the logo on the thumb, i immediately recognised it. I'm in Australia by the way.
If the legal options to acquire something are poor or nonexistent, then just get it illegally and within reason. Forcing us to have subscriptions to three or more streaming services just so we can have a full library to the likes video stores once had, when many times these streaming services themselves are unsatisfactory (like RUclips only allowing max 480p resolution on rented movies or these streaming services lying to us by advertising 4k streaming resolution when it is more like 1080p) you can't blame people for pirating.
Damn you're handsome af

Piracy IS stealing ONLINE piracy IS NOT If some dude in the 1700s snuck into a theatre and ilegally watched a play, would you say he stole that play? No, of course you wouldn't. It would sound ridiculous It's the same for online piracy. Don't let the copyright holders gaslight you into believing otherwise. It's ilegal, but it's not stealing. They still have the thing, and "lost sales" is a falacy "Those who robbed roman ships of their cargo and olive oil" would be an inaccurate (and honestly, misleading) comparison to online piracy. A more accurate comparison would be if romans wanted to be the only ones with the right to selling olive oil and bread, and then some other people also started selling olive oil and bread. The romans would still have their olive oil and bread, but they would lOsE tHoSe SaLes
I’d rather just record cassettes, buy cds or just watch it on RUclips.
I thought it was aimed towards 90s kids. Not 90s adults.
To be honest, Windows 7 overshadows both it's predecessor and sucessors.
I learned to do things (easily) with XP & 7 that I find very difficult with 10. I am not a techno-geek so I need things to be easy. "SIMPLICITY IS THE EPITOME OF EXCELLENCE!"<Batman
The employees did not make and distribute Microsoft Coffee boxes. The person who provided the video clip does not exist either. This video is the prank. NationSquid didn't show the news video in it's entirety because it's hacked together clips of a real news anchor which will be much more obviously spliced and incoherent if it were viewed start to finish. Cool story though, fun video.
There is potential for the idea. Maybe it could get remade but less slower and less kiddy and remove all of the bad features! And add a less annoying clippy. And less complicated and have a simple deisegn like windows 11.
"iChat [...] didn't have the same number of features" 🤣 Well duh, if crapple had their way there would be no features lol Not that they would stop charging. If anything they would raise the price.
Everything spooky happened in 2008. Marx Soul, Username666, the US housing crisis, and a bunch more!
I remember Caffeine being a PC program as early as 2004 and apple had the caffeinate command for the terminal in the late 00s but I haven't heard of Microsoft Coffee before. It would be really cool for it to be real but forgotten.
Who discovered the convoluted process to get to the Hall of Tortured Souls or did someone from Microsoft just reveal this years later?
Windows 7 is my favorite 2nd favorite due to nostalgia, windows 8.1 is my favorite OS due to aesthetic
When Melissa hit I was providing database support for the marketing department at Dell, who had around 35,000 employees at the time. The email system was down all day, and the following two days we were only able to send emails through the intranet to other Dell addresses. Even though Melissa was known as a virus, it was often referred to as the 'Melissa worm'. I've never thought about it a lot until recently, but I decided to do a bit of research and came across this documentary. Now I'm kind of awed by the virus's significance. Some of my work at the time included making forms in Outlook so that sales managers could submit data. I'm not sure what version it was, but it still used jscript instead of VBA (which I think came with Outllook 98? Dell were often slow when it came to updating their software to the newest version, e.g. they didn't move from Win 95 until mid-2000). I also had to write macros in Excel and Access, and some of those created new entries in the file system. But the thought that VBA could be used for malicious purposes never occured to me. The main discussions about online safety were around whether or not to enable JavaScript and Java in IE / Firefox.
He’s lying. You know Twitch, right?
RUclips without ads and clickbait trash was amazing. Makes me nostalgic
Is it moral to pirate old movies
I'm still on teamspeak
My psychologist uses Skype for our calls. That's the only reason I still have it
Even if this could happen, software used to be sold on cassettes and even those had issues interfacing with the system through a direct connection, and you mean to tell me that laptops, with their infamously poor sound quality through the built in speakers, and their infamously poor laptop mics (I've genuinely sounded like I was in an air tunnel using my built in mics) and this guy somehow created a platform agnostic BIOS malware that somehow transfers through speakers and microphones and somehow has been coded to also account for issues with the code that could be misinterpreted due to the quality of those speakers and microphones and the malware caused system settings to not save effectively enabling a pseudo admin lock on his system... not through the OS, but through the BIOS? That sounds so ridiculous the person who created this code is the most genius person on this earth. Even malware that destroyed BIOS on some systems back in the Windows 9X days wasn't this sophisticated.
Windows ME is as bad as Vista and it just sucks terribly but it works fine to my opinion.
I tried to watch cable tv at my parents' house for the first time in years. Of 2000 channels, 30% were some form of video on demand, 20% were the same basic news channel from different cities, and another 40% they didn't actually get, but you can't tell until you try to watch them. It costs them $80/month. Needless to say, I'm sticking with RUclips.
I miss Windows XP, a very popular and very interesting operating system and the best operating system ever along with Windows 7
I should have used both Windows XP and 7 for longer than 11 months (Aug 2021 to Jul 2022)
Windows 7 is a healing from Windows Vista and is that good
Windows Vista sucks so bad and so hard and it works okay and at 2:43
its 2 am i didnt expect the audio glitch and now I'm scared
Mac did it earlier or better than Win 95 had no meaning. For DOS users Win 95 was a great improvement and was good enough.
Piracy is the epitome of human society. In a world controlled by greed power and control it represents freedom and purity
I just came across an entire comment thread that was bots pumping up a Whatsapp scammer. The thread was over 50 comments and 5 were real people.
People in 2050 with brain chips laughing at the 'Humans cant get computer viruses':
talking about wannacry video when?
Were people just more gullable? Yes, as in with less experience
you have a nice sounding microphone
What
I stopped using Skype because of the ads: I have no clue who reviewed and approved them, but they were weird or disgusting. The only "normal" ad I got was for Skype Business, everything else was weird clickbait.
The only way to reduce piracy imo is having a better service.
Windows ME mainly taught me how to alter the size of the swap file due to it regularly running out of memory. Now I up the size of the swap file every time I get a new computer.
This all started from someone who downloaded the file 😫😫😫
Also, one reason to pirate, is to get access to much better quality media than what a streaming site offers.
That feeling when you are old enough to remember seeing the downfall in real time with your own eyes...
